The Celtic B team are back in action this Saturday, and it’s a repeat of their previous fixture as they face a Cumbernauld Colts side they beat 2-0 on Monday night thanks to goals from Owen Moffat and Bruno Davidson.

And Tommy McIntyre’s side will be aiming to do the double over Cumbernauld with a win at the Penny Cars Stadium (KO: 1pm).

Speaking ahead of the game, the Celtic B team manager said: “Cumbernauld may change their personnel or their system, but we can’t predict that, so it’s about how we look towards the game and how we prepare the players.

“We’ll have one or two players back, which is good – Adam Brooks is back and Joey Dawson got a couple of minutes under his belt the other night, so there’s a chance we might freshen one or two things up, but the players are really buoyant about it and looking forward to it.

“It’s an unusual one when you play the same team twice in the one week, but the attitude of the players has been really positive.

'They’ve trained really well and there’s been a lot of good feedback from them about the game on Monday night.'

“If you look at our programme, after this weekend, we’ve got an away game at Berwick the following Saturday, and then a midweek game against Spartans, followed by another game at the weekend against Broomhill.

“So the games are coming thick and fast, but it’s great preparation for them, it’s a great learning for them and I’m sure they’d rather play games than train.

“It’s also good to get used to that cycle of preparing for games, playing the games, recovery and looking after their bodies, looking after themselves mentally and physically. And then going again and preparing again, and having that mental strength to do it in the next game.”

The ultimate aim of every young player in the Celtic B squad is to make the step-up to the first-team, and so every training session and every game presents an opportunity to impress and state the case for inclusion.

“That special moment could be the catalyst for their career,” said McIntyre, “and football’s a strange thing – you can never predict the path of how it’s going to land on your doorstep.

'So when it does land in front of you, you need to be prepared to take that opportunity, and you might only get one opportunity.'

“You’ve got John Kennedy and Stephen McManus at the game on Monday night, while the manager watches the games, so there’s an opportunity for them to showcase themselves, whether it be in the games or if they get called up to training with the first-team.

"And that’s what you want – to provide them with that opportunity, because opportunity is what they need, and then it’s up to them.

“You need to make sure you’re prepared, that you’ve worked really hard and that you’ve left nothing to chance, so when you go there you can express yourself and then hopefully you get the chance to kick on.”
