Tom Boyd was the Celtic captain at the time, and he later recalled that day in an interview with the Celtic View.

The Hoops legend said: “I wanted the referee to blow his whistle as soon as Harald scored the second goal.

'I knew there was no way St Johnstone were coming back and we all just wanted to start celebrating.'

“It was an emotional game to be part of and when you’re 2-0 up with minutes left, you can finally start to think about the victory. We were playing well and we never had any pressure to contend with in the final stages.

“It was a case of seeing out the last 15 minutes and being professional. We did that and when the final whistle finally arrived, the feeling of euphoria was incredible.”

As for Harald Brattbakk, his goal ensured his place in Celtic’s history. It was one of 20 goals the Norwegian striker scored for the club in 60 appearances, and it was easily the most important.

He told the Celtic View: “When I say to people that the greatest moment that I have had in my career was that day at Celtic Park when we won the league, I don’t think people know how big the championship is in Scotland and how important it was to prevent Rangers winning the league.

'It is the biggest moment in my footballing career and I remember that day as if it was yesterday.'

“The strongest memory overall is just after the game when we were celebrating and being able to celebrate such a moment with the fans at Celtic Park.

“When you can celebrate with the fans and not only by yourself afterwards it is amazing because the fans are so happy.

“You can sense their joy and they almost became part of the team. It’s actually difficult to explain, but at Celtic it feels like the supporters are part of the team and I don’t think that you find that at many football clubs."
