It’s Tuesday lunchtime and thousands of Celtic supporters will soon be downing tools, picking up their scarves, and taking part in what is traditionally a Saturday afternoon regime – wending their way to a game at Paradise.

Circumstances dictate that the Hoops' third game of their UEFA Europa League Group G campaign – typically a Thursday night encounter under the lights and with all the midweek trimmings that partner that - goes ahead on a Tuesday afternoon with a 3.30pm kick-off.

However, Celtic manager, Ange Postecoglou is sure that any bizarreness surrounding the situation will be engulfed by a typical European atmosphere at Celtic Park with the Hoops fans ready to play their part as usual against Hungarian champions, Ferencvaros this afternoon.

He said: “I reckon you could play at 3.30am and you’d get a great atmosphere at Celtic Park.

'I think our supporters will roll up and sing their hearts out, and obviously our job is to make sure we reward them.'

The support certainly have been rewarded recently, not least in the past two away games, with two impressive victories and goals in each game to match the display.

The fact that a couple of those goals have come from midfield – either created there or scored by a midfielder – have given the manager further options on choosing his team for tonight with the likes of Tom Rogic and David Turnbull showing both creativity in making and scoring goals, while not neglecting the solidity of the defensive part of midfield play.

The manager said: “That’s always the challenge, you’ve always got to have good balance. The key to that I guess is when Tom and Dave are in good physical condition, they can do the defensive work we need so that we don’t lose the balance.

“I think the tough bit for them is that I have been able to rotate them. When they’ve played game, after game, after game, that’s when I think it becomes too much of a burden on them to do that sort of role, but certainly at the weekend they both looked fresh.

“Dave hadn’t played at all during the time away and Tom felt really good, so I think that showed. That’s the kind of thing we’ve got to keep monitoring and there may be games where I think we need the two of them, or give one a spell and change things up a little bit.

‘But when they’re both feeling good and fresh, I think it gives our team a real good attacking threat without diminishing any defensive solidity we may need.’

Turnbull scored a scorcher of goal in Saturday’s 2-0 win at Motherwell, while Rogic has been instrumental in moves that ended with Jota rustling the net at the top end of the pitch – with the opener on Saturday and the last-gasp winner at Aberdeen before the international break
