Celtic Women’s Tegan Bowie is pressing for her team-mates to use their height and strength advantage against Spartans this Sunday.

Speaking to the press ahead of their seventh league match of the season, the winger feels exploiting the opposition during set pieces will be key.

“Against Spartans, they’re quite tough defensively, but with the form we’re in I think we’ll do quite well, especially on the big pitch,” she said.

Bowie stated that getting more out of set-pieces was one of the squad’s aims going into last week’s match against Hamilton Accies, when out of the six goals scored, two came from set-pieces.

The 18-year-old revealed that Celtic Women’s manager, Fran Alonso was pleased with their performance and use of set pieces, with defenders Caitlin Hayes and Cheyenne Shorts both scoring.

She added that the ever-changing Celtic starting line-up is keeping a very competitive atmosphere within the squad.

“You have to be on form all the time because someone could just come in and nick your spot,” she said. “It just pushes you to be better every day.”

The former Hibernian player, who can often be seen making runs down the wing and producing cross after cross, said the team’s current style of play is helping her showcase her talent.

“The new shape helps me a lot. I can attack more and support the play,” she said.

“That’s what I like to do just run around all day. I try and do that as much as possible and hopefully get more assists along the way.”

After signing her first professional contract in the summer, Bowie said it has made her more assured of her own abilities.

“It gives me a lot of confidence that Fran thinks I can be here for the future.

'I’m just enjoying it at the minute, and I’m learning from my team-mates which is really important.’

“I’m just looking to improve and keep upping my game over time.”

A high goal tally may be important for the teams at the top of the Scottish Women’s Premier League table come the end of the campaign - something Bowie said the Celts are very aware of.

“We’ve got players that can come on to the field and score from different areas - midfielders, defenders, attackers,” she said.

“It’s good because it’s not just always our strikers like Charlie scoring, who is in tremendous form right now.”
