A young Celtic B team suffered late heartache in the Lowland League, conceding a last-gasp goal to lose 1-0 to Spartans.

Tommy McIntyre’s side started the game strongly, and had a couple of chances inside the first five minutes through Owen Moffat.

His first effort was well-saved by the visitors’ goalkeeper, Jack Newman, while his second shot went over the bar.

The home side were controlling the early proceedings, dealing confidently with any Spartans attacks, while Bruno Davidson had a chance on half an hour for the Hoops but his effort from a Ben Wylie cross was just off target.

Five minutes into the second half, and Wylie was denied the opening goal of the game when his shot from just outside the box was well saved the Spartans keeper.

At the other end, the visitors had a couple of corners in quick succession, but the danger was cleared by the Hoops defence.

On the hour mark, Newman, on loan to Spartans from Dundee United, produced a superb save from a Wylie free-kick, while as the game entered the last 20 minutes, the visitors tried to push forward in search of a goal.

Unfortunately for Celtic, that came with almost the last kick of the ball. Celtic weren’t able to clear a corner, and Jamie Dishington was on hand to fire the ball home and give his side a 1-0 win.

It was a cruel end for the young Hoops side, who had certainly deserved to take something from the game.
