Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic side ensured European football at Paradise after Christmas with an impressive victory over Ferencvaros in Budapest tonight (Thursday).

The 3-2 win did not reflect the control the Hoops enjoyed for much of the match but, nevertheless, the Celtic manager was delighted with the performance as his team delivered a second group-stage win over Ferencvaros.

Now, with an away game against Bayer Leverkusen and a home tie with Real Betis still to come, there is still everything to play for in Group G.

Speaking after the game, the Hoops boss said: “I’m super happy with the effort the boys put in. I thought our football was really good tonight.

“We scored three great goals, and could have had a couple more. It was disappointing to concede a second because I don’t think it was a true reflection of the game.

'To come away from home and win is always a challenge in Europe, but to do it in the manner that we did tonight is full credit to the players.'

The goals in Budapest came from Kyogo, Jota and Liel Abada, and while the front three will have grabbed the goalscoring plaudits, the manager explained that the contribution of the whole team provided a springboard for the strikers to supply the goals.

“It was great,” he said. “All parts of the team were functioning. The front three were great but they do it off the platform of what the other players are providing for them in terms of opportunities. So it great rewards for them, and three great goals.

“We’re getting there. We’ve still got some work to do, but it certainly helps because the front three put a big shift in and it’s great to be able to take them off and put on three guys who have equal quality and they can contribute for us.”
