Celtic FC Foundation’s Walk On Weekend will take place on Saturday, June 5 and Sunday, June 6 as we encourage supporters across the globe to walk a distance of their choice and help raise funds for our Football for Good Fund (FFGF).

For London-based supporter, Alex McDermott, the initiative not only inspired her to get walking during the Walk On Weekend itself, she has also decided to extend the challenge and cover 250KM between May 1 and June 6.

Now well underway, Alex plans to take in a number of London’s Celtic and football-related sites, including a visit this weekend to St. Anne’s Church and Primary School in Whitechapel, where Brother Walfrid spent 15 years following his time in Glasgow.

Speaking of her challenge, Alex said: “When I saw the Foundation’s Walk On Weekend advertised I was immediately interested, as it combined two things I love - Celtic and walking. Between lockdown and furlough, this past year has been a struggle. There wasn't a lot to do, no-one to see and my family are half way around the world. But the one thing I could do, was put on my trainers and go for a walk.

“I love the idea that supporters around the world are taking part, all walking at the same time. So I’ll pull on my Hoops and visit some of the Celtic-related sites and football stadia in London, knowing that many others are doing exactly the same.

“My love of Celtic comes from my Grandpa and he always taught us to give back and so I’m delighted to take on this challenge and support the amazing efforts of Celtic FC Foundation, on behalf of him. The Football for Good Fund has done so much during the pandemic for people in need and I just hope that my small contribution will help in the big picture.

“I decided to extend my own personal efforts beyond just the Walk On Weekend, as I wanted to physically challenge myself with something I hadn't done before, as well aiming to raise as much money as I can. After being stuck inside for most of the year, I’m excited to be outdoors in the coming weeks and hopefully find some sun. Plus, it gives me an excuse to explore all of the walks and Celtic/football sites of London that I haven’t seen before.

“I am confident that I will reach 250KM by the end of the Walk On Weekend and I’m actually ahead of schedule, so might even increase my target. I want to stay focused on the end goal and hopefully encourage others to get out and walk with me. Walking is so good for your mental health and is dedicated time to yourself. I’m aiming to raise £1 for each KM I walk but I want to keep pushing that target if I can.”

Participants must be 13 years of age or over on Saturday, June 5, 2021, in order to take part and participants aged under 18 years must have consent/approval from their parent or legal guardian.

Upon registration, you will receive your sponsorship pack including a sponsor form and details on how to set up your online fundraising page. Participants will also receive a Walk On Weekend keepsake.

All we ask is that you commit to raising a minimum of £50 (after entry fee) in support of our FFGF.

Participants will also be in with a chance of winning a fantastic 2020/21 Celtic home shirt, signed by members of the first team squad, which has been kindly donated by Club sponsor, Dafabet. Everyone who registers to take part and raises the minimum fundraising target will be entered into a prize draw, with the winner to be announced following the Walk On Weekend.
