The Celtic Women’s side have had an impressive campaign so far in their first season as a professional outfit, and manager Fran Alonso said the squad’s mentality has been the most significant factor in this campaign.

With two games remaining, Celtic are second in the table, just three points behind leaders, Glasgow City, and if they can win those two games, the Hoops will secure Champions League football for next season.

The first of those two games is this Sunday, when Celtic play host to Forfar Farmington, one of only two teams to have taken points off the Hoops this season. However, with 10 wins and a draw from their previous 11 games, Fran Alonso's side go into the game full of confidence.

And the manager said that the impressive run of form from his side is a result of the mentality that exists throughout the entire team and coaching staff.

“The mental aspect of the game is 80 per cent,” said the Celtic Women’s manager. “Tactical, physical and technical is only 20 per cent. I think our mentality is our main strength.

“Before the first lockdown, we managed to beat Glasgow City in the last minute. Against Rangers, we took all three points in all three games in the last 10 minutes of the game. Against Forfar we were 2-0 down in the 87^th minute and we managed to rescue a point, a point which looks to be very important for us now.

'We are a very disciplined team and the mental strength of this team is our best attribute.'

"Heart is the key. The passion, desire and belief is key and every player that’s come in gets that. It’s not only the players, though. Whenever we bring in staff they get it straight away. The club is bigger than us and we’re just a little piece of this huge club. Humility is really important for us and you can see that in how the girls play for each other. These values make us so strong.”
