Celtic made it three league wins in a row over Rangers with an impressive 2-1 victory that puts Fran Alonso’s side second in the table, just three points behind leaders, Glasgow City, with three games to go.

Both sides were eager to establish an early foothold in the game, and it was the home side who had the first clear chance in the game after 13 minutes when Zoe Ness had an effort on target, but Chloe Warrington cleared the ball off the line.

A minute later, Mariah Lee – the goal hero from the Hoops’ victory over Rangers at Celtic Park last month – was denied by goalkeeper Jenna Fife.

However, on 19 minutes, Celtic got the opener, and it was skipper, Kelly Clark, who led by example to grab the goal, heading home from a corner.

That lead lasted seven minutes before the home side equalised with their first goal against Celtic this season as Rachel McLaughlan’s shot looped over Chloe Logan with the aid of the wind.

The Celtic goalkeeper was unlucky with that effort, but she produced a number of impressive saves in the first half to deny Rangers a second goal.

The second half was just as competitive and evenly contested, with both sides trying to fashion openings, and when the all-important goal came, it was Celtic striker Sarah Ewens who grabbed it, heading home from a corner.

It was a superb finish from Ewens and a crucial goal, with Fran Alonso’s side showing great professionalism to see the game out and leapfrog Rangers into second place in the table.
