With mass participation fundraising events still not possible due to government restrictions, the Kiltwalk has gone virtual once again this year. Taking place over the weekend of Friday, April 23 – Sunday, April 25, it’s easier than ever to take part, with participants encouraged to tackle any distance of their choice, doing any activity they wish.

April 25 also marks the anniversary of the birth of one of Celtic’s greatest ever figures, the legendary Willie Maley. In honour of the great man, Celtic FC Foundation’s Supporters’ Committee will be putting their own Celtic spin on this year’s Kiltwalk, with their own ‘Maley’s Miles’ challenge.

Across the course of the dedidated weekend next month, members of the group will be collectively accumulating 167 miles, the distance from Willie Maley’s birth place in Newry, in the north of Ireland, to Celtic Park.

Funds raised through their efforts will support the Foundation’s Football for Good Fund, which continues to provide vital support to those most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

And thanks to the incredible generosity of the Hunter Foundation, all funds raised will be topped up by a wonderful 50%.

Speaking ahead of their ‘Maley’s Miles’ challenge, Chair of the Supporters’ Committee, Iain McGovern, said: “These have been extremely challenging times for all charities, Celtic FC Foundation included, and our role as a Supporters’ Committee has become even more important than ever before.

“As a group, we were keen to collectively take part in some form of fundraising activity, albeit remotely. With the Hunter Foundation topping up all donations by an incredible 50%, the Virtual Kiltwalk offered the perfect opportunity for us to do so.

“They’ve made it more accessible than ever before and this allowed us to put our own spin on the event. The weekend coincides with the anniversary of Willie Maley’s birth date and we felt this was a wonderful chance to pay tribute to a true Celtic legend, while raising funds for the Foundation.

“The 167 miles will be divided up between the members and everyone is really looking forward to it. It will be wonderful to feel part of a group activity once again, despite the fact we’ll each be clocking up our own miles individually.”
