David Turnbull said he and his team-mates have prepared for this weekend’s Glasgow derby like any other game – with a week of thorough, focused and high-intensity training at Lennoxtown and a desire to clinch maximum points.

Celtic will host their city rivals at Paradise on Sunday (kick-off 12noon), and the 21-year-old is determined to help the Hoops return to winning ways.

“The mind-set has been good we’ve had a great weeks training and were all feeling fresh after a break and we’re going into the game looking forward to it,” said Turnbull. “We’ve just trained well, every day, and are looking forward to the game at the weekend.

'We go into the game treating it as any other game. We’ve done all the normal work leading up to it and we’ll go to Celtic Park looking to play well and push as a team and looking to get a result.'

“You could say we have a point to prove, especially considering the last game, playing well and not taking anything away from it, but we just want to treat every game the same and we go into it wanting to win as usual.”

With the Scottish Cup in mind, Turnbull said he’d love to help the Hoops lift silverware before the end of the campaign, but said his primary focus is Sunday’s league encounter.

He added: “The cup gives us something else to look at and try and get a run there and see how far we can go. But it’d be great to get the win on Sunday, you’re looking to do that in every game, but this is a big one, everyone knows that.

“In terms of recent form, we’ve created a lot of chances, especially against Dundee United, we created loads but couldn’t seem to get that goal. It’s something we’ve been working on and we hope we can do that on Sunday.

“I just want to keep doing what I’m doing at club level, creating goals and scoring goals as best I can. Personally, I think I’m improving every week, that’s what I’ve been working on, my reactions and off the ball stuff, that’s where I feel I need to improve and I’m trying to do that every week.”
