Fran Alonso finds himself on the brink of history this weekend as he takes the Celtic Women’s team into their final fixture of the season with the chance to secure a Champions League spot for next season.

Celtic travel to Motherwell for the season finale tomorrow (Sunday) knowing a win would guarantee them a place in the Champions League next season.

The Hoops are currently two points ahead of third place Rangers and three behind leaders Glasgow City in the Scottish Women’s Premier League, and a top-two finish will be enough to see the team realise their dream of playing in Europe’s most prestigious club competition.

Speaking to the Celtic View podcast ahead of Sunday’s game, Fran Alonso said his players were well prepared for their final challenge of what has been an incredible campaign.

“The team is very excited,” said the Celtic Women’s manager on the latest episode of the podcast. “We can’t wait for the game to come.

'The preparation coming into this game has been brilliant in terms of our last 12 fixtures which have included one draw and the rest wins.'

“Psychologically and physically we couldn’t be in a better place but we know Motherwell are much-improved side from the first time we played them. They’re well organised and we’ll have to be at our best to get the three points we need to guarantee the Champions League spot.

“We like to set our goals as high as possible. This is our very first year as professional and we have 10 teenagers in the squad so we have to be very proud. This is a long-term project but we also want to try and get success as soon as possible.”
