Greg Taylor and his team-mates are determined to get back to winning ways after a difficult start to 2021, and the Hoops will be targeting three points against Hamilton Accies this Wednesday night.

Celtic kicked off the 2020/21 season with an emphatic 5-1 home win over Accies, while they also won 3-0 at New Douglas Park on Boxing Day.

They face a Hamilton side who are currently propping up the Premiership table, albeit with an inferior goal difference to local rivals, Motherwell, who have the same points.

And while Neil Lennon’s side will be favourites to win the game at Celtic Park, Taylor knows that there needs to be an upturn in performances in order to put a run of positive results together, and he spoke to the official match programme ahead of Wednesday night’s game.

“It’s a disappointing run after the way we’d been playing towards the end of the year,” said Taylor, “and even in the game against Rangers, I thought we played really well that day but unfortunately couldn’t get the win.

“Since we’ve come back, the results have definitely not been good enough, nor have the performances, and it’s a period we’ve got to work through. The training’s been good every day, we work 100 per cent every day – everyone does – and it’s just about continuing to do that.

'I’m a big believer in football that you get what you deserve, and if we continue to work hard, then results and performances will turn.'

On the back of last week’s 2-2 draw away to Livingston, the players would have preferred to get another match under their belts at the weekend, but the past few days has allowed them to work on the training pitch in preparation for the game against Hamilton Accies and the busy run of fixtures to follow.

“The Hamilton game is the next opportunity to get a win and it’s one that we’ve got to take,” Taylor said. “We’ve been working hard towards this game, to right the wrongs and put on a performance. And hopefully that will be something to build on and take it into the remaining games.

'In football, when you win games you naturally feel better, and there’s a better feeling about the place, you feel confident and you try things when you’re confident that you wouldn’t when things aren’t going so well.'

“But at this club, regardless of how you’re playing or how the team is playing, you’ve got to want to take the ball and you’ve got to want to try things, and just try to work through it.

“We’ve been training every day since the Livingston game in preparation for tomorrow. I would rather have had a game at the weekend and just get back out there, but at least we’ve had those few days of training to work on things to take into Wednesday night’s game.”
