Following last Wednesday’s 2-2 draw with Livingston at the Tony Macaroni Arena, David Turnbull was pleased to put a free weekend to good use by training hard with his team-mates at Lennoxtown ahead of tomorrow night’s Premiership encounter with Hamilton at Paradise.

Speaking today, the 21-year-old midfielder said returning to winning ways is at the forefront of everyone’s minds behind the scenes at Celtic, and he wants that to start against the Accies on Wednesday evening.

“We’re good, training away as normal and working on parts of the game that we haven’t done in a while,” said Turnbull. “We’ve not had a game for a week, so we’ve been training and looking to improve. We were in at Lennoxtown on Saturday and Sunday with no game, so we’ve been working towards the game tomorrow.

“In terms of preparation, the staff and the manager show us clips from previous games, and we try to take that onto the training ground – set pieces, attacking play, defensive shape, that kind of thing.”

Turnbull said Celtic manager Neil Lennon and his backroom staff have been great with the players as they strive to get the most from the squad as a whole. The midfielder likewise praised club captain Scott Brown, whose efforts on and off the pitch have a huge bearing on everyone associated with the club.

“The manager has been great with us, the same every day and he tries to get the most out of the boys," he said.

'Since I came in, Scott Brown has been brilliant with me, having a laugh off the pitch and giving me pointers and tips here and there on the pitch.'

“It’s helped me a lot. Even when I wasn’t playing he was telling me to bide my time. He’s since been willing me on and supporting me, and I think he’s got a big part to play.

“There are positions up for grabs all the time, we have a good strength in depth in this squad and competition is good. There will be games we’ll need him and I’m sure he will be called upon.”
