Neil Lennon was delighted with another impressive showing from his team as the Hoops hit four goals without reply against St Mirren.

Tom Rogic opened the scoring in the first half – “an outstanding goal from an outstanding player on the night,” said the Celtic manager – while in a dominant second-half, Odsonne Edouard, Ryan Christie and David Turnbull all scored to give the Hoops their second successive 4-0 away win following the victory against Kilmarnock at Rugby Park last week.

Speaking after the game, Neil Lennon said: “It’s the best we’ve played here for a long time, and they didn’t come off it tonight.

“I thought in the first half we were okay, but we gave the ball away cheaply at times, with some unforced errors in possession, and that’s not like us.

'We had a few words with them at half-time, and in the second half they were magnificent, and we could have won the game by a lot more.'

“We took a lot of criticism, and rightly so, after the defeat against St Mirren at Celtic Park, so obviously we wanted to put that right. That’s three wins on the bounce now, and we’ve got to try and maintain that until the end of the season.”

Celtic’s dominance in the second half was confirmed by a blizzard of goals – three in the space of five minutes – and it was no more than Neil Lennon’s side deserved. And the manager was delighted with everyone’s contribution on the night.

“There was good variation in our play and we had good control of the second half,” he said. “Scott Brown was superb in the second half and that got everyone else going.

"Going forward, we looked very, very good, and then Ryan Christie came on. He looked a different player – revitalised and he scored a beautiful goal and played very well. David Turnbull got his goal – I got a great reaction from him at half-time – and the midfield was very strong.

'Odsonne and Albian worked very well together at times, so it was a very good performance on a difficult night against difficult opposition. So we must take a lot of good from that and build on it.'

“We may have to make changes for the weekend to freshen things up, but I thought we played well against Motherwell at the weekend, for long periods of the game, and they carried that on tonight.

“It’s great to see players hitting the form we know they’re capable of. It’s not easy coming here and winning by that amount of goals, so it’s a good night for us.”

The only negative from the game at St Mirren Park was the injury picked up by Stephen Welsh in the second half following a bad challenge from Jon Obika, and the young defender will be assessed in the coming days.
