Celtic take to the road again this weekend when they travel to Perth to take on St Johnstone this Sunday (KO: 12noon). And on the back of three league wins in a row – including successive 4-0 wins over Kilmarnock and St Mirren respectively – the Hoops go into the game full of confidence.

Neil Lennon is well aware of the challenge that St Johnstone will pose, however, and he knows his side will have to produce another strong performance to take all three points.

When the sides met at McDiarmid Park back in October last year, it took two late goals from Leigh Griffiths and Patryk Klimala to give Celtic a 2-0 win. The corresponding game at Celtic Park finished 1-1, with Chris Kane’s opener for the Saints cancelled out by Mohamed Elyounoussi.

Speaking ahead of the game, Neil Lennon said: “St Johnstone are a difficult team at times to break down. I thought we should have won the game at Celtic Park but we conceded a poor goal near the end from our point of view.

“You don’t take many goals off them this season because they are so well-structured, and they had a really good win at Livingston as well, ending their run, so it’s a tough game for us.

'But if we keep up on this momentum and the players stay in the top of their form, then we look more like the team we were at this time last year – rampant, strong, quality and that’s all we’re asking from them now.'

St Johnstone have been buoyed by reaching the League Cup final, where they will face Livingston at Hampden at the end of February.

Celtic, meanwhile, have scored 10 goals and conceded just one in their last three games. Wednesday night’s 4-0 win, courtesy of goals from Tom Rogic, Odsonne Edouard, Ryan Christie and David Turnbull – saw the team produce another good performance, and Neil Lennon is looking to carry that into Sunday’s clash.

“It will be a difficult one,” the Celtic manager admitted. “The two league games we’ve had – they got a good draw at Celtic Park and we left it late up there to win 2-0.

“I thought they were outstanding in the League Cup semi-final against Hibernian, and they’ve been buoyed by getting to the final.

“Callum’s put his own imprint on the team and they’re always a tough to beat at any stage of the season, the way they’re structured – a bit like St Mirren really – but if we go in with a positive frame of mind and the right attitude again, then I’m hoping for another good performance. But we’ve got to earn the right to play.”
