Celtic endured a frustrating and, ultimately disappointing night in the Highlands as they went down 1-0 to Ross County.

Despite dominating possession, and creating a number of chances, the Hoops failed to find the net and were undone by a Jordan White header from a free-kick in the 70th minute.

And in apologising to the Celtic fans for the result, Neil Lennon also explained that the game was one which encapsulated the team’s season.

Speaking after the game, the Celtic manager said: “We’ve dominated the game, we’ve missed some unbelievable chances and then we can’t defend a set-play for some reason. After that, we missed another couple of great chances.

“It’s a head scratcher tonight for sure. We came up here earlier in the season and won 5-0, and we didn’t play anywhere near as well as we did tonight, and we got nothing for it, so it’s a difficult one to stomach at the minute.

“We worked the ball into really good areas but we let ourselves down with the final ball. We didn’t play badly and I don’t think we deserved to lose the game, but we have done.

“It’s a bump, but we’re not learning from defending set-plays. Ross County had the ball in our box maybe once or twice in the whole game, and we’ve conceded a free header from the biggest guy in the team, who we should be dealing with comfortably.

“We were in total control and the chances we missed, particularly in the first-half, were unbelievable. We’ve let the fans down again, but it’s not for the want of trying to win a game of football so we’re bitterly disappointed with that.”
