Jonjoe Kenny said Celtic’s determination and desire helped the team fight back from a goal down to defeat St Johnstone yesterday (February 14).

Celtic made it four wins from four in the league after defeating St Johnstone 2-1 at McDiarmid Park. The home side took the lead early in the second half, but Neil Lennon's side responded in impressive fashion, and their character shone through as they quickly picked themselves up from the disappointment of conceding a goal. A brace from Odsonne Edouard took the Frenchman's tally to eight goals in six games and had the champions ahead shortly after the hour mark.

And Jonjoe Kenny said Celtic’s grit and determination played a crucial part in turning the game around.

“It was a tough game but a good win," he said. "The pitch wasn’t great at the start but that was no excuse. We had to come here and battle. I think that’s what we did and we deserved the win.

'We had the quality in the team to come back. We have to go and win the battles first and that’s what we did all over the park. It was a good win and an important win for the confidence.'

“We defended really well and were better at set-pieces so that helps us to go forward. We had lots of chances and that’s part and parcel of football. To come away with a win is the most important thing.

“Every game is tough for Celtic. Even with scorelines like 4-0, you have to win the battles at the start of games to earn the right to play.”

Sunday’s game was Kenny’s fourth game for Celtic and the English defender said he is enjoying every minute of his time in the Hoops.

“I’m loving every moment of my time here,” said the 23-year-old. “I’ve come here to play football with a great set of lads and the manager’s been brilliant for me. I’m enjoying every moment of my football here.

“Aberdeen will be tough as well but we move on to Wednesday and, hopefully, we’ll get another win.”
