Celtic’s last meeting against Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership was a high-drama 3-3 draw at Pittodrie last October.

This game is also Albian Ajeti’s only experience of playing against Derek McInnes’ side, having sat out the Hoops’ 2-0 Scottish Cup semi-final win the following week – and the striker is expecting a physical game at Paradise this evening (Wednesday).

The 23-year-old forward would prefer a more straightforward performance from Celtic this time around, but admitted he doesn’t care how the match unfolds, so long as the home side finish on top.

Speaking to the official match programme, Ajeti said: “I’ve only played against Aberdeen once, and that was in the 3-3 game at Pittodrie back in October last year. That was a very physical game, quite a dramatic game, and Aberdeen are a team who always like to fight for everything all over the pitch.

“We accept that of them, but that doesn’t detract from how we go about our business. In every game, home or away, we always try to play our football. Sometimes that will require more fight than other games, and against Aberdeen, we maybe expect that more.

'They’re a very determined team, but, again, we’ll try to play our football and do everything we can to win the game with our style of play.'

Neil Lennon’s side go into tonight’s home game against Aberdeen on the back of a 2-1 victory at the weekend over St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park – the team’s fourth win in a row – and the focus now is on another three points.

For Ajeti, confidence is key, both on an individual and collective basis, which the striker reckons the team has at the moment.

“I’m pleased whenever I score goals, and I’m happy to have scored six so far this season, but, equally, injuries have held me back,” he explained. “I ultimately want to score in every game that I play, and from here that means I want to finish the season as well as I possibly can, score as many goals as I possibly can and help out my teammates as best as I possibly can.

“In doing so, I need to keep myself fit – and if I can do that, then I believe the rest will come. I don’t tend to have goal targets, I just want to continue to work hard and help out the team any way I can.

'Confidence is definitely growing throughout the team. When we play game-to-game, as we always do, we want to get consecutive wins.'

"That starts with two wins in a row, for example. Then it’s three, four, and now, ahead of Aberdeen, we want five.

“It’s always about building on your last result, whether that’s picking yourself up or pushing yourself forward. When you’re winning, naturally, everyone is more confident which, in turn, can help you keep winning.

“We just want to keep that going at the moment, we want to keep winning and we want to do everything we can to win every game between now and the end of the season.

“No matter the circumstances of the game, the most important thing is to get the win. It always is. If there’s drama again, like that game at Pittodrie last October, my only experience of playing Aberdeen, then that’s fine. Just as long as we get a better result this time around.”
