As Celtic FC Foundation’s Christmas Appeal phase of the Football for Good Fund draws to a close, today we turn our attention to the penultimate beneficiary which is also furthest afield, Ottawa Mission.

In recent years, members of the Ottawa Celtic Supporters’ Club have raised funds in support of our Christmas Appeal and we have subsequently added to their total and made a combined donation to Ottawa Mission, an organisation which is close to their hearts. This festive season, we are extremely proud to have continued this wonderful tradition.

Ottawa Mission aim to help those living in poverty in the region and strives to meet the changing needs of people who are homeless, offering hope to everybody who comes through their doors.

The donation made via our Christmas Appeal will allow Ottawa Mission to provide a festive dinner for everyone who seeks shelter with them this Christmas.

Ronnie Campbell of the Ottawa Celtic Supporters’ Club said: “The Ottawa CSC was founded in 1987 and, in that time, our wee club has supported a number of good causes. Getting behind Celtic FC Foundation and, in turn, the Ottawa Mission, was a natural fit for us.

“We are thrilled to work with the Foundation, not only for the support and inspiration that the team there provide us, but also because it gives our club a meaningful link to Celtic, despite being so many miles apart. It means so much to us.

“The work that the Mission does is closely aligned to the core values of why Celtic Football Club was formed, so we’re delighted that the Foundation continues that charitable ethos here in Ottawa, by contributing to an organisation we’re so passionate about.”

Ottawa Mission is the latest Appeal beneficiary to be confirmed, joining Help the Homeless Glasgow, Homeless at Christmas, Glasgow’s Number 1 Baby and Family Support Service, Elpis Centre, Hope Kitchen Oban, Ballymote SVDP, Newcastle West End Foodbank, Scottish Refugee Council, Refugee Survival Trust, Glasgow Women’s Aid, Glasgow East Women’s Aid, The Wayside Club, Refuweegee, Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity, The Cardinal Hume Centre, Borderline, Bow Foodbank, St Anne’s Primary School, St Anne’s Church, Loaves and Fishes, Spirit Aid, the Salvation Army, Safe in Scotland, Glasgow City Mission, PEEK, St Roch’s FC Foundation, The Invisibles, Woman’s Aid Dublin and Women’s Aid Belfast and Lisburn.

Through the Appeal we want to give hundreds of families in our communities the Christmas they deserve, making sure there’s food on the table and gifts under the tree.

We also wish to help pensioners, women and children in refuge, the homeless community and refugees – as well as a whole host of others facing poverty and hardship.

Charity, and the generosity and compassion of the Celtic Family, will always be our past, present and future – it’s our heritage, our responsibility, our lifeblood.
