Celtic chalked off another game in their busy festive schedule with a 1-0 home win over Motherwell this afternoon (Sunday).

But despite there being only one goal in the game, which came courtesy of Tom Rogic on the stroke of half-time, Ange Postecoglou’s side dominated in terms of possession (71%) and chances created (26), and the margin of victory could, and should have been bigger.

However, the Celtic manager was pleased with the efforts of his players, who will now turn their attention to the game away to Ross County on Wednesday night.

Speaking after today’s win over Motherwell, Ange Postecoglou said: “It was a good win and it was a big shift put in by the lads. They worked really hard and we had some chances which could have made the game a bit more comfortable for us, but, overall, it was an important victory for us.

“Joe made a great save but I think that was really the only save he had to make, and we really should have put it away a lot earlier. When you leave it at 1-0, it looks a tighter game than it actually is.

'But we’ve done well from set-pieces this year scoring goals, and it was a well-worked one and I was glad somebody put it away.'

With Kyogo, Albian Ajeti and Giorgos Giakoumakis all ruled out through injury, the manager opted to play David Turnbull in the forward role, and while he didn’t get on the scoresheet against his former club, he and his team-mates fashioned enough opportunities throughout the game.

“We had good chances and we created them really well,” the manager said. “There’s no doubt that we’re lacking some attacking players out there – natural attacking players – but, again, that’s a challenge that we’ve got at the moment.

“Right from day one we’ve tried to have a mindset of just getting on with it rather than feeling sorry for ourselves, and I think the players did that today.”
