Mariah Lee said she cannot wait for Sunday’s game against Hibernian after scoring the winning goal against Rangers in midweek, and the American forward believes the confidence from the Glasgow win will be important in building momentum throughout the remainder of the season.

Lee helped Celtic to a huge win on Wednesday night (April 21) with the winning goal against Rangers at Paradise. The 24-year-old came off the bench to net her first goal for Celtic when she slotted home in the 80^th minute to secure a 1-0 win that moved Fran Alonso’s side to within two points of a Champions League place.

The American forward has had little time to dwell on the momentous achievement with the Hoops returning to action on Sunday (April 25) when they host Hibs at the K-Park Training Academy. The quick turnaround has only excited Lee who said she and her team-mates would reap the benefits of the win in the upcoming fixtures.

“It was a huge win for us and it builds confidence,” said Lee. “Coming on and being able to play and score a big goal was amazing. It was a great feeling and I’m still soaking it up but hopefully, there’s more of that to come.

“Some people have talked about the title being between Glasgow City and Rangers but we showed we’re in the thick of it so we shouldn’t be out of the conversation.

Hibs will be hungry for points this weekend having suffered back-to-back defeats in the league to Glasgow City and Rangers in their last two games. Lee said she was well aware of Hibs’ quality and was prepared for a difficult game against the Edinburgh side.

“I know there’s a rivalry between us and Hibs and we’ve been anticipating this game for a while,” she said. “We’re excited to play this. They’ve had some close wins but they’re not a team to take lightly so we’re ready to have a good performance against them and get the win.

“We’re all used to playing, recovering quickly and going into the next game. We’re prepared to go out on Sunday and fight. I like having the games close together because we don’t have to wait around. I love playing in the games and it’s more fun when they’re closer together.”
