Celtic Women’s manager Fran Alonso said he hopes his side can replicate their performance in the last Glasgow Derby when Celtic face Rangers at Paradise tomorrow night (Wednesday).

The Hoops will return to league action three days on from their impressive 5-1 win away to Spartans when they line up against Rangers at Celtic Park.

Fran Alonso’s team are the only side to have inflicted a league defeat on Rangers so far this season, and the Celtic Women’s manager is eagerly anticipating another big game for his players.

“This is going to be my second Glasgow Derby,” he said. “The first one was unbelievable and I still remember the feeling after the game. I expect a very special game and hopefully with the same result as last time with three points for Celtic.

'Last time we were very good. We were very organised and executed the game plan to perfection. It’s going to be difficult but we like a challenge and we’re coming into this game in a great state of mind.'

The Hoops manager acknowledged Rangers have improved since the two sides last met, but he pointed out his side were also stronger and would always look to take three points from the game.

“We want to win every single game. Tomorrow we have the ambition to take all three-points. We’re not going to be intimidated by any opposition, although we respect them and know they are very good. Success, when you represent Celtic, is winning and second is not good enough.

“I anticipate a very good football game. Both sides have a lot of quality players, both like to play good quality football and the pitch is perfect.”

The Celtic Women’s team usually play their home games at the K-Park Training Academy in Easy Kilbride however, tomorrow night’s game will be played at Celtic Park. Fran Alonso said he was delighted that his players would be able to experience a Glasgow Derby at Paradise and highlighted the significance of the move for Women’s football.

“They are very excited. We have some 16-year-old girls who have never been there and it’s going to be a very special moment for them that they’ll never forget. Some of our players have already played there so they know what to expect. We are all really excited about the opportunity.

“It’s a very good day for women’s football and I love the fact it will be shown live on BBC. It’s great for the women’s game that this game is going to be played at Celtic Park.”
