JAMES Forrest said he doesn’t expect to score many more goals like his spectacular header in Wednesday night’s 2-1 win over St Mirren, but he added he was most pleased that Celtic were able to take all three points.

Forrest completed Celtic’s first-half comeback in Paisley when he headed in the Hoops’ second goal just before half-time. Jim Goodwin’s team had taken the lead within minutes of kick-off, but that was cancelled out when Shane Duffy scored his second goal for Celtic, four days on his netting in his debut.

The champions took the lead in the 36th minute thanks to Forrest’s bullet of a header. The 29-year-old is approaching 100 goals in the Hoops but his highlight reel does not feature many headed goals.

“I’ve not scored many headers but I’m buzzing with that one because it was an important goal to put us 2-1 up,” said Forrest in an exclusive interview with Celtic TV. “I thought big Duffy was going to get his head on it and I was behind him. I can’t really remember much of it but I’m delighted with the header and I don’t think I’ll score many more of them.

“The manager’s pleased with that and we were a threat from set-pieces. That’s a different part of our game and it’s good to have that when we come up against teams who sit back.”

Last night’s fixture was one of Celtic’s two games in hand and Forrest was happy he and his team-mates were able to close the gap at the top.

“We’re delighted with the three points,” said the Hoops winger. “St Mirren made it hard for us and they scored early but we got the three points in the end and I’m delighted to have got on the scoresheet as well.

“St Mirren are a good team and they had some good chances as well. We knew we had to be at our best and make the most of the chances that we created so we could take all three points. We’re delighted with that and we’ve managed to close the gap as well.”
