SCOTT Brown said the response from Celtic to going a goal down against Livingston at the weekend once again highlights the winning mentality of the champions, and added the new additions to the squad have allowed the team to be more versatile in attack.

Celtic continued their impressive form on Saturday with a 3-2 win against Livingston at Celtic Park. Gary Holt’s side put up a fight against the champions and took the lead with a penalty early in the first half.

Celtic, as they did away to St Mirren three days earlier, responded almost immediately with an equaliser from Callum McGregor. Goals from Ryan Christie and Albain Ajeti ensured Celtic took all three points, and Brown was full of praise for how the team reacted to going behind.

The Celtic captain was at Lennoxtown today to promote the club's new book, The Official Story of Nine In A Row, and he reflected on another league win for the Hoops.

“We go into every game wanting to win and keep a clean sheet,” said Brown. “Sometimes that doesn’t happen if someone scores screamer or if there’s a slight error but it’s about how you respond to that and the lads bounced back really well.

"We went 1-0 down but we played some great football and scored from a few of the chances. It shows you that the lads have that winning mentality.

“We knew we were going to have a fight. We know they’re strong, defend really well and are a danger from set-plays. It’s about us trying to keep the ball and create as many chances as we possibly can.

“We’re not going to play inch-perfect football every week. There are always going to be teams who score goals against us but it’s about how you respond to that, and the lads have been unbelievable over the past nine seasons. There’s always going to be ups and downs but it’s about how you get over those hurdles.”

Neil Lennon opted for a 3-5-2 formation against Livingston and both attackers, Christie and Ajeti, scored. Brown said the efforts to strengthen the squad over the summer have allowed Celtic to threaten opponents with a variety of different formations.

“The gaffer wanted to add some quality so we could rest players and chop and change the formation,” said Brown. “He’s brought in great players and we can play whatever the manager wants during the game with the players we have.

“Odsonne can drop into a 10 nice and easy, but he likes to play up top as well. Albian’s the one who has been holding the line, holding the ball well and creating chances and scoring some great goals as well. The competition is great and that’s what we need because it pushes everyone on in the squad.”
