AS he looks ahead to Sunday’s Scottish Cup semi-final against Aberdeen at Hampden, Leigh Griffiths said it’s almost easy to forget Celtic are two games away from winning a quadruple treble.

Having clinched last season’s League Cup and the 2019/20 Scottish Premiership, the Hoops will target a place in last season’s rescheduled Scottish Cup final, set for December 20, with a win against the Dons this weekend.

“I think people are forgetting that we’re still playing for another treble, but we take each game as it comes,” said Griffiths. “Last Sunday was a difficult one to take and then we moved on to Thursday. Now that’s out the way, we can focus on Sunday and try to get ourselves into another final.

“Aberdeen were well-organised last week, but we know what Derek McInnes’ side is all about. They’re organised, they’re attacking, and big Sam Cosgrove coming back is a big plus for them.

“They’re a physical side, they want to get in your face, but for us, it’s all about us and what we do. If we turn up with our A-game, then we should be in the final come Sunday afternoon. I just want to get back into Celtic’s starting XI and make sure that I’m playing well.”

While disappointed to have left Aberdeen with one point instead of three, Griffiths keenly stressed how much of the campaign remains and how much more Celtic still have to play for. With his own game in mind, he savours the competition in the squad, and will continue to work hard on and off the pitch in his bid for regular first-team football.

He added: “There’s still a long way to go in the season. We’re still in October, almost November, and league trophies don’t get handed out at this point. We’ve got a long way to go, a lot of games still to be played. We need to keep calm, keep focused, and take each game as it comes.

“I feel good. I’m coming into training every day, working hard, trying to get my fitness levels up to the maximum that I can, and trying to put the gaffer under pressure to play me in these games.

“Again, speaking about myself, I’ve got Odsonne, Albian and Patryk breathing down my neck, and that’s a difficult decision for the gaffer to make. We’re all vying for that jersey and we’re looking forward to playing. But, if not, we all want to contribute as best we can.”
