Christopher Jullien believes Celtic can recapture the form that brought them so much success last season and said the team’s only focus is on showing that this weekend in their League Cup tie at home to Ross County.

Jullien made his return to action on Thursday night in Celtic’s Europa League group-stage game against Sparta Prague in the Czech Republic. And while he was pleased to be back playing again after two months on the sidelines through injury, he admitted that the 4-1 defeat was a tough one to take.

Speaking after the game, the Hoops defender said: “It was a bad night but, at the end of the day, we have big games in front of us. We’re going to train hard and see where we went wrong.

'I’m going to take this as a lesson, the whole team will, and we’re going to learn and work hard in training to get back to the great team we were last season.'

“We have the same players as last year and the same staff, who are doing a great job. We have stuff to work on and we have to trust in each other to get back on what we were doing last year when we wanted to win every game. We still want to win every game but there are some games where we’ve missed opportunities to win them.”

The 27-year-old said that Celtic would approach the cup-tie the same way they do with every game and added he and his team-mates had complete faith in each other and the manager to build up some winning momentum.

“Since I arrived last year, the mindset of the team has been to only think about the next game," he said. "We have a game on Sunday and we can focus on what’s in front of us. The Europa League is a big night and we’re really sad about the result.

“We still believe in each other, still believe in the staff and the manager. He has 100 per cent of our backing. He’s been a great coach since I arrived. He’s doing unbelievable work. He’s done it before and he’s going to do it again. I don’t have any doubt. We just have to look to each other and erase the mistakes. That will get us back to the shape we were in.”
