SCOTT Brown said Celtic must show their fighting character when they return to action tomorrow (Sunday) and look to return to winning ways with a victory against Motherwell at Fir Park.

Celtic will take on Stephen Robinson’s Motherwell in the league three days on from their disappointing 4-1 Europa League loss to Sparta Prague at Celtic Park.

The result leaves Neil Lennon’s side with just one point after three games in Group H and Brown said he and his team-mates had to immediately improve on the disappointing displays which cropped up throughout the campaign so far.

“We don’t accept that performance, it’s not good enough,” said the Celtic captain. “Everyone in that changing room knows that it’s not good enough. It’s now about the fighting character of the men in that dressing room, everyone coming into one to make sure we’re a solid team. We need to start becoming hard to beat. We need to start scoring goals and keeping clean sheets as well.

“Everyone knows each season is not going to be plain sailing but this season’s not been good enough in the way we started and the way we’ve been playing. We need to make sure we try and get the performances that we know we can and hit the heights we know we can.

“It's not likes us to perform like we did during the week but now we need to concentrate on the league. That’s the main thing for us, we need to get back into the good habits of keeping clean sheets and scoring goals.”

Motherwell have won four out of their last five league games and will be difficult opponents for Celtic this weekend. However, Brown highlighted how big a fixture it was for the champions and said they were looking forward to getting back out on the pitch.

“They have a good manager and a good philosophy in the way they play the game but it’s all about us on Sunday,” he said. “It’s a huge game for us and huge for our season. We need to make sure we’re ready to perform at top levels.

“It’s about how you bounce back and the characters in the changing room. The manager will make sure he gives us a good chat. We’ll look forward to Motherwell now.”
