AFTER picking up the Dafabet Celtic Player of the Year Award earlier this week, Odsonne Edouard has now added the Scottish Football Writers’ Player of the Year award to his personal collection.

The 22-year-old Frenchman enjoyed a very impressive campaign, with his 28 goals, 19 assists and overall excellence up front helping the Hoops win their ninth league title in a row and the League Cup for the fourth consecutive season.

In addition, he was integral to Celtic’s Europa League campaign, which saw Neil Lennon’s side top their group and become the first Celtic side to win a competitive game in Italy when they beat Lazio 2-1 in the Stadio Olimpico. It was Edouard who provided the assist for Olivier Ntcham’s last-gasp winner in Rome.

The striker now has 62 goals in 126 appearances for Celtic, and he’s looking forward to adding to that tally and helping the team as they bid to make Scottish football history by winning a tenth consecutive league title.

“I’m very happy with the award,” Edouard told the Scottish football media. “It shows I worked hard and had a good season, and it gives me a lot of confidence for the future. I’m very proud to be the first French player to win this award, and I know how important it is.

“There were a lot of highlights for me during the season, but the biggest one was winning the title for nine in a tow. That’s the reason we play.”

And Celtic’s Player of the Year added: “Winning 10 in a row is very important for the club, the players and the fans. No-one knows what will happen in the future but I want to be a part of it.”

Odsonne Edouard becomes the seventh Celtic player in in a row to win the SFWA Player of the Year Award and, indeed, of the last 10 winners, nine have been Celtic players. Leigh Griffiths in 2013 was the other winner, doing so while at Hibernian.
