Neil Lennon is hopeful Celtic’s impressive win over Lille can be a catalyst for the team going forward and said David Turnbull’s standout performance has given him plenty to think about.

Lille arrived at Celtic Park having only lost one of their 18 games in all competitions so far this season, but an excellent Celtic performance ensured the Scottish champions took all three points from their final Europa League group-stage game.

Neil Lennon’s side lead twice in the first half, with Nanitamo Ikone’s goal sandwiched between goals from Christopher Jullien and a Callum McGregor penalty. Timo Weah levelled with 20 minutes remaining in the game but David Turnbull capped off a wonderful performance with the winner in the 75th minute.

Speaking to the media after the game, Neil Lennon was pleased to see his players come away with a well-deserved win and said the result could help propel them forward into a winning run.

“I’m delighted,” said the Celtic manager. “It was a great performance against a good team. It was a really competitive game for this stage of the competition, so I’m really pleased we finished with a win because I think they deserved something out of the group.

“We had good goals, good teamwork ethic and a good atmosphere around the place. The lads have deserved that, no questions.

“I know what I’ve got with these players and what their mindset is. The atmosphere’s been good and I don’t think the performances have merited some of the results in this run we’ve been on.

'Hopefully, this is the catalyst. There’s a long way to go in the season and a lot of work to be done but it’s not beyond us at all. We’re very determined to turn things around very quickly for everyone involved at the club.'

Ismaila Soro impressed in the heart of midfield in his first start for Celtic and the Ivorian was accompanied by an on-form Turnbull. The pair played a key role in Celtic’s win and Neil Lennon was delighted with their performances from the pair.

“I thought Soro had a great game," the Hoops boss said. "I thought he read the game brilliantly and I thought his fitness levels were good. He broke the play up and was really economical with the ball as well.

“David had a hand in all of the goals. I thought he was outstanding and it was a great finish for the third, I really enjoyed that one. It’s been a slow burner for him. He’s had the virus and missed a month. We had to break him in slowly and I thought on Sunday he made a real positive contribution and he did again tonight, so it gives us a lot of encouragement going forward.”
