There was a sense of disappointment at Celtic Park as the Hoops were held to a 1-1 draw against St Johnstone.

Despite creating a number of chances, with Saints keeper, Zander Clark, did well to deal with, it took an equaliser from Mohamed Elyounoussi to rescue a point for the Hoops.

It leaves the team with two wins from 12 games, and the difficult run of form is a source of frustration to the manager.

Speaking after the game, Neil Lennon said: “I’m bitterly disappointed that we didn’t win it.

'I think we lack something in the final third and we’re not working the goalkeeper enough but we did have good chances and the way things are going, you need the goal.'

“Even in the second half, we had good control and missed a couple of chances again. We can’t keep a clean sheet either at the moment, for whatever reason. The first phase we dealt with, the second phase we haven’t, and then we ended up chasing a game we were in control of. They’re definitely lacking a bit of legs and a bit of confidence at the minute.”

After a first-half of few chances, Celtic did fashion some opportunities in the second-half, but couldn’t get the opener, and they suffered a blow when St Johnstone substitute Chris Kane grabbed an opener with 11 minutes of the match remaining.

And while Elyounoussi cancelled that out three minutes later, the Hoops weren’t able to get a second goal which would have delivered the win and the three points.

“We were tentative in the first-half for whatever reason,” said the manager. “We’re trying not to permeate that to the players, and told them to go out and relax and try to play their football. But, psychologically, they’re a little bit tentative – that’s the right word to call it.

“The second half was a bit more like us. Again, we had good chances but we didn’t take them, and then we shoot ourselves in the foot by giving away a really poor goal from our point of view, out of nothing. It seems to be symptomatic of the way things are going for us at the moment.

'We need that bit of freshness because we’ve had a lot of games.'

"We need a little bit more support for Odsonne in the final third at times – Ajeti wasout with a hamstring today – but we need more quality in the final third, and the players have got it.

“They’re just not executing what they can do. It’s a little bit slow and pedestrian and that’s a psychological thing more than anything else.”
