A jubilant group of Celtic players were training at Lennoxtown today in preparation for the league clash with Ross County on Wednesday night.

The feelgood factor enveloping the Hoops squad followed their Scottish Cup triumph at Hampden on Sunday, a success which also secured a fourth consecutive treble for the club, and Neil Lennon is hoping that it will be the springboard for his team to go on a sustained run of good form.

But while the Celtic manager is proud of what he calls ‘a lifetime achievement’ in becoming the first person in Scottish football history to win the domestic treble as both player and manager, he is not basking in the glow of Sunday’s triumph. His only focus now is on getting three points tomorrow night.

Speaking ahead of the Premiership clash at Paradise, the Hoops boss said: “There’s a lot of good feeling around the place and a lot of players are galvanized and full of energy.

'We don’t have the time to take stock of the achievement just yet but they’re feeling good about themselves, as we all are.'

“You’re hoping that a big burden of the pressure is off them and they can go out and play a little bit more freely with less anxiety as well, and just chip away at winning games and finding our consistency.

“But there’s no doubt it’s a fantastic achievement for them and it’s given them a huge psychological lift.

“They’ve completed one part of what was required of them, and now we have to dig deep and claw back a big deficit. It’s not beyond us but what we have to do is find consistency of performance and the players know that.

For us, we need to improve defensive set-plays. It’s been a problem for us, for the majority of the season. We’ve no problems scoring goals but, defensively, we need to improve, there’s no question of that.

“We can use Sunday to kick on and, for me, it’s a lifetime achievement to be up there with the great managers and the great players of this club. And to be the first in Scottish football to win the treble as a player and as a manager is very special for me, when you think of the great players and managers over the last 120 years of Scottish football. It’s a unique moment, but there was a lot of help along the way.

'I’m not finished yet. While I’m at peace with myself, I’m not finished yet and we still have a lot of work to do.'

Wednesday night’s game sees Celtic face the team that eliminated them from the League Cup. Since that victory in Glasgow, Ross County’s form has dipped, and four defeats in a row sees them languish at the foot of the league table.

And following their 2-0 home defeat to Hamilton Accies last weekend, the club parted company with manager, Stuart Kettlewell. His replacement is former Hoops defender, John Hughes, who has taken over until the end of the season.

“It might be too soon for John to implement his style of play and the way he wants his players to play,” said Neil Lennon. “There is a familiarity about them, obviously.

“We gave the League Cup game away – a set-play and a penalty, which cost us the game – but we didn’t create enough chances and that’s something we’re going to have to address for tomorrow. We need to try and create more and work the goalkeeper a lot more than we did in the League Cup game.

“I was surprised (at Stuart Kettlewell’s departure) because I thought he did a great job there. I spoke to him on Saturday night just to wish him well. I knew how much the job meant to him and how much Ross County meant to him as well.

“I don’t think our form this season has been as good as it can be, although we’ve only lost one game in the league. We’ve drawn too many and that needs to be rectified. We need to start winning some games.”
