Mikey Johnston marked his return just in time to play a part in helping Celtic clinch the Quadruple Treble, and now the Hoops winger is eager to do everything he can to bring more success throughout the rest of the season.

After 10 months out with injury, Johnston returned to action when he came off the bench in Celtic’s recent 2-0 league win against Kilmarnock.

The 21-year-old then came on at the start of extra-time in Sunday’s Scottish Cup final against Hearts to get 30 minutes under his belt. And when the game went to penalties, Johnston scored the fourth spot-kick, paving the way for Kristoffer Ajer to clinch the win.

Speaking to the media ahead of Celtic’s league game against Ross County tomorrow (Wednesday), Johnston said it felt great to come back at such a pivotal time in the season and was feeling ready to contribute to the team.

“It’s been amazing and to come back at this time is amazing,” said Johnston. “It gives you a big boost when you’re back and in with the team.

'I’m getting closer to full fitness every day. I’m working on my fitness and trying to get back to full match fitness. I need to work hard every day in training to get back to that level again.'

“I just feel as if I’m trying to get back to full fitness and if I can help the team then I will, I’m going to make myself available every week and hopefully I can get back to.

“I think every player goes through injury and you have to either sink or swim, and you need to bounce back. Hopefully, I can bring something different to the team and add what we’ve been missing.”

Celtic will be aiming to win all three of their remaining games in 2020 and Johnston is confident the team are in a good position to do that, starting with Ross County tomorrow night.

“Things haven’t gone well at times, but we’re taking each day at a time,” he said. “Winning the Scottish Cup is really positive. We are going to take something from the game, we’ve got big games coming up, and we need to get results every week.

“There’s always pressure on Celtic and we need to deal with it. We are taking each game at a time, and every game is vital for us. We have shown we are winners so I definitely feel we can keep winning.”
