CELTIC FC Women might have won their last four games in a row but there is no chance of any over-confidence or complacency creeping into the squad as they prepare for this Sunday’s game against Forfar Farmington.

Manager Fran Alonso knows the importance of winning the last two league fixtures before the short winter break – Forfar on Sunday and then Motherwell the following weekend – and after the break in action for international fixtures, the Celtic squad are desperate for a return to action.

“Forfar Farmington are a very dangerous team,” the Hoops boss said. “They are good on the counter-attack, and also shooting from outside the box, so we can’t allow them a couple of metres or they will punish us. They are also good on set-plays.

“They played Rangers last time out, and were only trailing 2-1 late into the game before Rangers got the third goal to kill the game. However, Forfar had two or three chances to equalise before then.

'We cannot underestimate them, and if we are not at our best, we will struggle to get something from the game. It’s important to approach the game in our usual manner of a cup final. It will be a tough game and we preparing for that.'

Celtic’s most recent fixture came a fortnight ago when they produced an impressive performance to beat Hibernian 6-2. It continued the team’s good run of form after an opening day defeat to Glasgow City, and the win was all the more impressive, given that Hibs have been Scotland’s second best team in recent seasons.

“We are looking forward to competing again on Sunday,” Alonso told the official club website. “Every weekend without a game feels wrong since we are back from lockdown. Playing makes us happy, as does being be able to prepare for games. So we’re very happy to be back with two games in a row before the Christmas break.

“We beat Hibernian and the scoreline was amazing, which has obviously given us a lot of confidence. However, it wasn’t just that game. We come into the game on Sunday with four wins in a row which is never easy, especially when two of these teams are Rangers and Hibernian.

“So we are very proud of what we have done so far but, of course, this means nothing before Sunday.

“We have to get our basics right, our humbleness, our work-rate and keep our focus to try and play our best. It is a home game, so we have to try and get three points.”
