Christopher Jullien was full of praise for the mentality Celtic showed in their win against Lille, and said the team is confident of building on that in the upcoming games.

Jullien headed in Celtic’s opening goal in their 3-2 win over Lille last night (Thursday) and was delighted with the character the team showed throughout the 90 minutes.

The French side twice cancelled out Celtic’s lead, but Neil Lennon’s side did not let their heads drop and David Turnbull’s goal 15 minutes from the end sealed the win for the Hoops.

Jullien said the response from Celtic highlighted the mentality within the squad and how much they wanted to win, regardless of whether they would be able to qualify from the group.

“We showed great mentality to come back and take the lead,” said the French defender.

'It’s difficult in a game when you have those ups and downs but we stuck together and we showed how much we wanted to win that game.

“It was a difficult game but we restored our lead twice after Lille scored and that shows the mental strength we had. We really wanted the win and even though it doesn’t change the group for us, it was a good win in our minds and will be important for all the players and the staff.”

The Celtic defender said the result was an important step forward for the team and added Celtic would take all the positives from in for the upcoming games.

“It was a big victory and I’m really happy with the result,” he said. “It’s been a difficult month, difficult for the players, fans, staff and everyone at the club. It was really difficult but we’re going to take everything from this game.

“It’s important now to keep looking forward. We’ll build on that now and we have a lot of big games, including a final, to play before the end of the year.”
