LOOKING ahead to this weekend’s Scottish Premiership encounter with Ross County, Scott Brown sang the virtues of competition within the squad – hailing new signings David Turnbull and Shane Duffy in the process.

The captain said it’s great to have players who want to play for the club, and he looks forward to seeing the new Bhoys impress fans from afar in due course.

“David is a fantastic footballer, he’s young, he’s keen, and he wants to be at this club,” Brown told the media via a Zoom call at Lennoxtown. “That’s the main thing for us, and Shane is the same. He’s an international at Ireland, he’s good in the air and with the ball at his feet and he’s a strong defender.

"For us, it’s a great few signings that we’ve brought in recently and that’s definitely going to help strengthen the side.

“Competition is great throughout the whole squad. It’s great that we’re bringing in youngsters, and it’s great that we’re bringing in people that want to be at this club, who are keen to look forward and create a few chances for us as well.

“David is a great lad and it’s all about working hard and making sure everyone is at the top of their game, and the manager wants strength and depth throughout the whole squad and that’s what we’re slowly getting to.”

When asked about the season so far, the captain said he reckons there’s always room for improvement but stressed he feels the team as a whole is in a great position.

He added: “I look at the team and not as individuals. We can always do better, we know that, we’ve had one bad result this season, but when you go back and analyse the games, we’ve dominated them.

“That’s what we do, but we’ve just not managed to put the ball in the back of the net as much as we’d like to. We need to make sure we’re a little bit more solid at the back and a little bit tighter in the middle of the park as well. We’re looking good, though, and I think we’re in a good place now.”
