DESPITE the year-long injury that saw his first potential move to Celtic scuppered last season, David Turnbull is back to full fitness, having signed a four-year deal at Paradise last week in what he described as a dream move.

The 21-year-old midfielder is now keen to make up for lost time, and looks forward to performing under pressure every week at the nine-in-a-row Scottish champions.

“I’m looking forward to the pressure of playing at Celtic,” said Turnbull in an exclusive interview with this week’s Celtic View, on sale now. “Pressure is part and parcel of football, and it’s something which comes with playing with big teams.

“Pressure comes from everywhere, both from your team-mates and their expectations, and externally from fans and the media. It’s all about how you cope with that pressure, and I’m sure that I’ll get on fine with that.

“Closed doors football is strange, though. I don’t think there’s any advantage to anyone, simply because everyone is in the same boat with it. That said, the fans are obviously a huge part of things at Celtic, and it’ll be a great boost when they are allowed back in whenever it’s safe to do so. I look forward to that, whenever it might be. Playing in front of 60,000 fans, it’s just any player’s dream, isn’t it?”

Turnbull praised the unprecedented success of the current Celtic side in recent years, and said he will do everything he can to write himself into the club’s history books over the course of this season.

He added: “It’d be brilliant to win silverware this season at Celtic. I obviously grew up playing with Motherwell, and while we were involved in cup finals, there was maybe less of an expectation to get there. It’s the opposite at Celtic, so to be involved in big games, tournaments and cups would be an honour for me and my family.

“I can’t wait to do whatever I can to help Celtic win more trophies in this important season ahead.”
