JAMES Forrest’s 400-game milestone wasn’t the most memorable night of his enduring Hoops career, but he marked his 401st with his first goal of the 2020/21 campaign.

Despite the disappointment of Celtic’s defeat to Ferencvaros days before Sunday’s emphatic win over Motherwell, Forrest stressed the importance of bouncing back and continuing that form after the upcoming international break.

“We just need to make sure we keep getting good results like Sunday’s against Motherwell and we keep putting in good performances so that the fans are desperate and buzzing to come back,” said Forrest in an exclusive interview with this week’s Celtic View, on sale tomorrow. “As players we can’t wait for that either.

“More often than not, we do bounce back from poor results but it’s not a given and it’s not as easy as saying, well, we had a bad result, now we’ll bounce back. We take nothing for granted. We expected a hard game against Motherwell on Sunday, and we got that.

“They’re a well-organised side and they’re tough to break down. We played well, scored three goals, kept a clean sheet and now it’s up to us to keep picking up good results and keep putting in good performances.”

Having made his debut under Neil Lennon on May 1, 2010, Forrest can’t quite believe so much time has elapsed, and said he’s keen to keep adding to his tallies for many years to come.

He added: “Way back when I made my debut, I’d never have thought I’d make 400 games,” he added. “There have been so many highs and big games over the years. I just want to keep trying to work hard, keep trying to be a part of it for as long as I can.

“When you get that success, you keep wanting more of it, and when you do get a disappointing night, like ours last week, you remember how bad you feel afterwards and don’t want many of them. That makes you strive for success again.”
