IN the wake of last Sunday’s comprehensive 3-0 win over Motherwell, Neil Lennon praised his side’s response following a disappointing result in the UEFA Champions League days earlier. Now, he said his players know what’s expected moving forward.

Goals from James Forrest – the winger’s first of the campaign so far – Albian Ajeti and Christopher Jullien sunk the Steelmen at Paradise, and the manager said his players looked more like the squad who created history at home and abroad last season.

“I thought we got better as the game went on,” said Neil Lennon in an exclusive interview with this week’s Celtic View, on sale tomorrow (Thursday). “We were a little bit off tempo in the first half albeit we had good control of the game. We scored a great goal but we never opened up Motherwell as much as we would have liked.

“The performance against Motherwell is exactly the kind of performance I’m looking for in each game. It’s about more consistency now in the performance. It’s important we use the experience of last year and the disappointment of going out of the Champions League qualifiers this year to make inroads again in the Europa League.”

The manager added: “For the first goal was a real driving run from Callum. For the first time in the game, we broke the lines. For me, the first half was like a keep-ball session and we were playing in front of them.

“But Callum made the break and it was a great ball. Jamesy still had a little bit to do but it was a great finish and that’ll do him the world of good. He looked far more like himself, as did Jullien, as did Ajer and Elhamed.”
