CALLUM McGregor admitted he and his team-mates were understandably low following Wednesday’s defeat to Ferencvaros, but said bouncing back with a positive result against Motherwell today (Sunday) is of paramount importance.

Celtic host the Steelmen at Paradise in Scottish Premiership action this afternoon, and the Hoops midfielder expects a stiff challenge against a disciplined side.

“Motherwell are very well organised," said McGregor in an exclusive interview with Celtic TV. "They like to play as well, they’ve changed their style in recent years and they’re pretty good with the ball. I think they try and play the game the right way, and they’ve got some really good players.

“We’ve managed to get David Turnbull, obviously, which is good. But we always expect a tough game, and it’s up to us to match that and implement our style to win the game.”

On the club’s latest signing, McGregor reckons Celtic have snared a great, young Scottish talent and he welcomes the challenge of another midfielder to the squad – something he feels will only help raise standards across the board.

McGregor added: “David looks great, he’s a young Scottish talent that the club have managed to snap up. The club have been very proactive in that sense, in terms of getting boys in, players like Ryan Christie, bringing them in and developing them, and that you see the levels that they can get to.

“If David can come in and do the same, that’ll be great for him and the team. He seems like a humble lad as well, which is great and what you need for this club. He’s got real high ability and a lot of potential. It’s up to us to get the best out of him, and get him on the pitch, look after him and let him flourish.

“In terms of performances, if you look at the Cluj result last year, that galvanised the squad, and we went on and played some wonderful football and got some really big results. Again, we have to look at that as a way to kick-start the season and we go again today against Motherwell.

"Hopefully we can get the victory, put down a marker and go again from here, going from strength to strength as we did last season.”
