AFTER completing his move to Celtic, David Turnbull said his immediate priority is working hard in training to convince his new manager he is deserving of a place in the team.

The 21-year-old was unveiled as a Celtic player yesterday (August 27) after putting pen to paper on a four-year deal with the nine-in-a-row champions.

Having finally completed his dream move to Celtic, Turnbull said his focus was now on earning a place in the team through hard work in training.

“I’m going to train as hard as I can and work as hard as I can,” said the midfielder in his first press conference as a Celtic player. “Hopefully, I’ll push other players and they’ll push me with the competition as well. It’s all about 100 per cent every day and whenever the gaffer’s ready to put me in, I’ll be ready.

“I’m looking to kick on and give more competition to the squad. I’d take any position but I’d probably say a number eight or number 10 box-to-box position. I like to do it all. I believe in my ability. I feel like I can come here and make an impact.”

Turnbull was close to signing for Celtic last year until a knee operation derailed the move. The former Motherwell player said he always knew he could overcome the injury and achieve his ambition of signing for Celtic.

“I always believed in my ability," he said. "After the injury, not much changed. It was always in my head that I would come back and be the same player. I just took it day by day.

"Some days were tough and hard to get on with but I had my team-mates. Davie Henderson, the physio, always helped me as well. I worked as hard as I could and knew I’d get back sooner rather than later.

“To get back fit and playing was my motivation. The boys were flying last season and I wanted to get back and find the form I was on the season before.”

Celtic are set to face Motherwell in the league this Sunday (August 30) at Paradise, meaning Turnbull could be in the squad to face his former team-mates just days after joining Celtic.

“If it happens, it’ll be a weird one,” he said. “I was with them all those years, so bumping into them all so soon would be a sort of funny experience.”
