ALBIAN Ajeti said he was savouring every minute of life as a Celt after producing the winning goal against Dundee United yesterday (Saturday).

The Swiss international came off the bench at Tannadice with less than 20 minutes remaining to give Celtic the all-important goal against Micky Mellon’s United side.

The champions dominated the game from the half-hour mark onwards and could have had a comfortable lead with the chances they created. However, a series of near misses and a string of good saves from Dundee United keeper, Benjamin Siegrist, kept the game goalless.

Neil Lennon made several tactical tweaks with 20 minutes remaining as he changed to a 3-5-2 formation which saw Ajeti come on to partner with Odsonne Edouard upfront.

The 23-year-old emerged with his first Celtic goal 10 minutes later and Celtic took the three-points their performance had thoroughly merited.

Speaking to Celtic TV after the game, Ajeti said he was delighted to secure the win for his team with his first goal in the Hoops.

“I’m very happy,” he said. “First of all, it was an important win for us. It wasn’t easy. Dundee United made it really tough and did everything they could to beat us. We had the chances so it was just a matter of time for when we would score the first goal.

“Everyone was very happy and they all congratulated me. We took the three points and won and that’s the most important thing.”

Ajeti was starved of regular playing time while at West Ham last season and the Swiss international said he fully appreciated the opportunity to play again now that he was at Celtic.

“I was very motivated to get on the pitch,” he said. “It wasn’t easy for me last year so I’m appreciating every minute I’m playing here. I always try to help the team and I’m very happy I was able to do that.

“I think if you’re happy, you’ll always be successful. It’s important not to put too much pressure on yourself and just enjoy where you are and I’m really enjoying being at Celtic.

“We have to be ready and prepare for the next game now. We need to recover from Dundee United and be ready for Wednesday.”
