NEIL Lennon praised a good night’s work as his Celtic side hit six goals without reply against KR Reykjavik to progress to the second qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League.

Mohamed Elyounoussi scored twice, while Christopher Jullien, Greg Taylor and Odsonne Edouard also on target, with the Icelandic side also netted an own goal.

Now the Hoops await the winners of the tie between Ferencvaros and Djurgaden, which takes place tomorrow night, while there is also a trip to Tannadice this Saturday.

Speaking after the game, Neil Lenon said: “It was really important to get 90 minutes into the legs and negotiate the tie as well. To score six goals and keep a clean sheet was very good, so I’m pleased with a lot of it tonight.

“It was important to try and increase the intensity and get the games into their legs, so we’ll see how they are on Thursday so they should get a benefit from that and we’ve got a big couple of weeks coming up now, so it’s important that we keep our focus now.

“The 10 days off didn’t help and we only had two competitive games before tonight, whereas a lot of other teams have had four or five, so we’ve got a little bit of catch-up. We’re not completely there yet.

"The likes of Ntcham has only played 20 minutes here, 20 minutes there, so I want to give him more game-time as we go along. Tom Rogic’s only had about 15 minutes in the past three or four weeks. For the likes of Elhamed and Bitton, it’s been good for them, and they came through it okay, and for the rest of them, to get through another 90 minutes is important, so hopefully we’re over that hump now and we go on now.”

Moi Elyounoussi opened and closed the scoring, winning the Man of the Match Award for his efforts, while the Celtic manager was delighted with the performance of Chris Jullien, not least his goal after half an hour.

“I thought he was excellent and you saw what he’s good at tonight,” the manager said of his French defender. “Not only did he set up the first goal but he then went and score from a corner. And, defensively, he looked a lot more like himself but I felt he would do, the more he plays, the better he gets, so he can be delighted. And Bitton had a good game alongside him as well. So there were a lot of positives to come out of it tonight and it sets us up nicely for the weekend and then the next round.

“I think we can be more of a threat from set-plays. I have say that Ryan’s deliveries have been excellent so far in the games and that’s another aspect we’ve worked on.

“Moi’s season was very good until it was curtailed with his injury, so you can see what he brings to the team. He’s really powerful, he wears people down and he’s very smart, and the two goals tonight will do him the world of good as well. He’s another one who needs games to get going but you saw a lot more positives from him tonight.

“To win 6-0 is very good. It was a good night’s work and we look forward to Saturday now.”
