HOOPS full-back Greg Taylor was delighted to help his side clinch their ninth successive league title during his debut season at Paradise, and wants nothing more than to add to that haul in the coming campaign.

Having joined from Premiership counterparts Kilmarnock last year, Taylor is in the unique position to have played against and alongside the Scottish champions during this stretch of domestic dominance – and the 22-year-old is certain which side of the divide he prefers to be on.

“I knew the size of the club and what it was like playing in front of that number of fans, even if that had only been a few times for me playing against Celtic at Celtic Park,” said Taylor, speaking in the Celtic View's 9 in-a-row special magazine. “It’s a whole different ball game, pulling on the Celtic strip and playing in front of those fans, it makes all the difference.

“I’m in quite a unique position in this team in that I know how good the lads are, playing with them and having played against them before. I was going to say in a fortunate position, but I’d say it’s a fortunate position now, given I get to play with them – it’s much easier that, than playing against them – but it’s strange how it works out.”

Taylor admitted he’d rather have lifted the league trophy in front of a full house at Celtic Park, but stressed he considers doing so in any circumstances an honour. Now, he’s laser-focused on upping his trophy tally once more in the months ahead.

He added: “As much as it was not in the circumstances I’d have liked to have lifted it, to lift the league title for the first time was a real proud moment for me. It was a hard season, for all of the lads, and well-earned by the end. It was a nice moment.

“I certainly hope there’s more to come from myself. It was a good few months there when I managed to get myself into the team.

"But that’s done now, and I’m hoping to build on that. I’ve worked as hard as I could have over the lockdown, putting strength into my legs, keeping fit, and I’m hoping to be raring to go when the season starts and play as many games as I can.”
