THIS week, Odsonne Edouard was named the Dafabet Celtic Player of the Year for 2019/20, Jeremie Frimpong was named Young Player of the Year (sponsored by Scottish Centre for Excellence in Dentistry & PWR Pack Ltd), and Olivier Ntcham’s wonderful last-gasp and ultra-composed chip against Lazio in the UEFA Europa League was named Magners Goal of the Season.

Scott Brown was naturally delighted for all three players, and said their stellar contributions were all worthy of personal recognition. Here’s what the skipper said:

ON ODSONNE
‘We’d obviously have loved the big man to have collected his Player of the Year award in front of the fans at the Hilton as well, but it wasn’t to be this year. It’s great that he’s won it, he fully deserves it and he’s been fantastic for us all season. He’s been a breath of fresh air since he came in, his touches, his awareness, his composure on the ball, he’s great. He lets us play a different game as well – he can go short, long, come in behind the defence, his link-up play is brilliant. He’s got everything you’re looking for in a modern-day striker.’

ON JEREMIE
‘I don’t think many people knew Jeremie from Man City, but the gaffer and John Kennedy were absolutely delighted with him when he came in. It was one of those ones where during the first few days at training, we were like. 'Wow! He’s quick.' Then he started growing into a proper right-back, he’s learning how we play as well. Especially at Celtic Park, we play with two full-backs who want to go forward and he’s got the pace to go forward and back, he’s got composure on the ball and he’s even chipped in with some goals as well. The one he scored in Aberdeen, he couldn’t miss it, but he tried his best!’

ON OLIVIER
‘Olivier’s Goal of the Season winner was a great goal, great timing and a great celebration. He should have got a double whammy for that one. Going away to Lazio was always going to be hard. We got a great result at home, but going away, having never won in Italy before, and for Olly to score late on and for us to play as well as we did – it’s a great goal. For us, I think most of the lads would have voted for that one as well, for what it meant. For him to score the goal the way he did, to chip the goalkeeper with such composure, that shows what a quality player he is too.’
