'The Story Of' is a web series dedicated to small but special tales from Celtic’s illustrious history. Here, Scott Brown explains how the Hoops celebrated a league title win in lockdown.

IN normal circumstances, Trophy Day at Paradise kicks off our league title celebrations proper – when the Celtic players on the pitch get their hands on the championship for the first time. This year's win was slightly different, but captain Scott Brown reckons group video chats in the digital age are a decent substitute for the real thing during Pandemic lockdown.

“I tried to organise a few Zoom calls with the lads, but it didn't work out that well - it really needed someone better at technology” the captain told Celtic TV shortly after the Hoops were awarded the 2019/20 title, before they'd come together to raise a glass remotely. “Who’s the best person to organise our Zoom celebration? It’s definitely not Callum McGregor, he's worse with technology than me, and so is Jamesy Forrest!

“Big Jullien is all over Instagram, I’m sure he’d be a good with this stuff.”

Brown admitted that not being able to celebrate in-person was challenging at times, but said being able to chat via social media and instant messaging groups has been crucial throughout periods of self-isolation and lockdown.

He added: “It’s hard because you’re otherwise in a changing room every day, you’re having a bit of banter here and there, and now you’re in a group chat.

“Every now and then you’re getting bits of banter, every few days someone’s put something daft on Instagram and the lads are giving them pelters. To be fair, it’s good that we can still keep in contact that way."

Of course, the captain would always prefer to celebrate hands-on with his peers, but doing so remotely over video call reflects the situation in 2020. Still, Brown's overarching message remains the same in the wake of a historic title win, whatever the circumstances.

He said: “It is lovely to have won nine-in-a-row.”
