'The Story Of' is a web series dedicated to small but special tales from Celtic’s illustrious history. Here, Scott Bain discusses his unique angle of French Eddy's treble-winning goal.

THE Treble Treble. No matter how many times we write those two words side-by-side, it’s still hard to fathom the magnitude of the achievement.

Hoops stopper Scott Bain was second behind Scott Brown and Mikael Lustig to lift Scotland’s oldest trophy on May 25, 2019 (the captain and full-back having lifted a handle each), and, despite going down 1-0 to Hearts in the final, the goalkeeper was always confident the Celtic players in front of him that day would get the job done.

French striker Odsonne Edouard hit the mark twice – once from the spot on 62 minutes, and once again 10 minutes later, after latching on to a headed through-ball from Lustig, baring down on goal, and lifting the ball over Hearts keeper Zdenek Zlamal and into the net.

Being the furthest back on the pitch, Bain had the best seat for both goals in the house.

“For the second, as soon as the ball left Mika’s head, I fancied Odsonne from my angle,” Bain told the official Celtic View podcast, in association with Eden Mill. “He still had a bit to go, and there was a silent moment when he lifted it past the goalkeeper. It hit the back of the net and then there was just this massive roar. Relief comes over you at that point.

“As soon as we got in front, I thought there was no doubt that we were going to hold on and win the game. We had the experience, we had the players, and I think it’s fortunate when you have players like Odsonne and Jamesy, these attacking players with that ability, whenever you go one or even two down, you never think that you can’t come back.”
