'The Story Of' is a web series dedicated to small but special tales from Celtic’s illustrious history. Here, Scott Bain highlights two key passes in his Ibrox debut in 2018.

SIGNED on loan with 15 minutes to spare on deadline day of the January transfer window of 2018, Scott Bain was brought in as back-up behind Dorus De Vries, with Craig Gordon out injured. On March 11, Bain made his debut in a thrilling 3-2 derby win at Ibrox. Talk about a baptism of fire!

Then 26-years-old, Bain played a big hand in the Hoops success that afternoon, and held his nerve well under pressure.

“It was an amazing way to start my Celtic career, and I’d trained the day before with Dorus as normal,” said Bain on the official Celtic View podcast, in association with Eden Mill. “Everything seemed fine. I remember getting to the hotel, Dorus was there, and then the next day getting a text in the morning saying that I was to be ready just in case. And then after breakfast, I got told I was going to be starting.

“It was a bit of a hit to the system. I was like, 'Ooft, here we go!' But, to be honest, I was really excited that I had a chance. At the time, I obviously came on loan, it was more of a back-up thing to make sure I was there if anything happened.

“I thought I might get games through the season, but they might not be games that matter, so it might not give me the chance to really show if I can make it at the club or not. I thought it was a fantastic opportunity and obviously the way the game went was fantastic.”

After going down 1-0 with just three minutes on the clock, Tom Rogic pulled level on eight minutes later. Daniel Candeias gave the home side the lead once more on 26 minutes before Moussa Dembele restored parity on the scoreboard deep into first-half added time.

Despite going down to 10 men when Jozo Simunovic was dismissed on 57 minutes, Odsonne Edouard hit the winner on 69 minutes, and Celtic held on to clinch all three points.
