ON December 8, 2019, Celtic overcame Rangers 1-0 in the League Cup final at Hampden to clinch their 10th consecutive domestic trophy. Christopher Jullien’s 60th-minute strike was all that separated the sides after 90 minutes, in a win inspired by a world-class performance from Fraser Forster at the opposite end.

The latter’s Man of the Match-winning display was heroic to say the least – thwarting the opposition at every turn, including a penalty stop less than five minutes after the Hoops took the lead. Team-mate and fellow keeper Scott Bain watched the match from the stands that afternoon, and was wowed by an all-round wonderful outing from his colleague between the sticks.

“As a goalkeeper, you appreciate that performance massively," said Bain in conversation with the official Celtic View podcast. "I remember watching the game from the stands that day and thinking, this is an unbelievable performance, and one of the best you’re going to see on such a big stage.

“We were thankful to have him, to get away with the win and to lift the cup. Fraser was fantastic that day. Once Rangers got the penalty, and once Fraser saved it, you thought, that’s it, it’s game over, they’re not going to get past him today. Since then, he’s been phenomenal.”
