There are 10 players in the running for the Dafabet Celtic Player of the Year Award, and supporters face a tough choice in voting for their favourite player in what has been another highly successful season for the Hoops.

MUCH was expected of Ryan Christie coming into the 2019/20 season after his stellar Double Treble campaign in which he broke into the first team and established himself as key component in the Celtic front line.

Christie did not disappoint when the new season began. The Hoops midfielder continued to be the driving force in attack and opened his goal scoring account early with three goals in Celtic’s first three Champions League qualifying games.

When the league campaign kicked-off Christie hit the ground running with a hat-trick in Celtic’s 7-0 win against St Johnstone on flag day. He followed it up with another goal the following week as Celtic defeated Motherwell 5-2 at Fir Park in the league.

The 25-year-old’s seemingly limitless energy helped greatly with Celtic’s high pressing style and his link-up play with his team mates was instrumental in breaking teams down.

On the European stage Christie rose to the challenge too with inspiring performances and goals. He helped Celtic get off to a good start in the Europa League group stages with an equaliser in France to help Neil Lennon’s side take a point.

One of his best performances of the season, though, came against Italian giants Lazio at Paradise. The Serie A side went into the break 1-0 up but Christie drew Celtic level in the second half. Then, with the final whistle imminent, Christie swung in the cross from a corner that Christopher Jullien headed home to give Celtic the win.

By the time the winter break rolled around Christie had scored an incredible 17 goals in 33 appearances and contributed 14 assists, one of which helped Celtic clinch the League Cup. He picked up from where he left off in the second half of the campaign with more goals and assists to cap off his best season yet as a Celt.

‘I felt great getting the equaliser, because I was frustrated with a couple of my earlier efforts, I maybe should have scored with the volley and I was kind of getting caught at the edge of the box and not getting my shots away, so I was happy to see that hit the back of the net. It was great play by Odsonne, I love playing off him and we create chances for each other, so I was happy to get back on the scoresheet and hopefully that continues.’
